Real Milk Paint®

Dear Real Milk Paint Co.
I recently ordered your milk paint and have been using it for art. It is easy to mix, use, and clean up, and the colors are wonderful! I purchased the basic bright red, blue, yellow ochre, black and white and have mixed the other colors I need.

Mother Earth Heals is a blog I write that includes information about eco-friendly products. I just posted a blog about the use of your product in my art: "Eco-Art: Wow! I have been having so much fun painting with my new eco-friendly paint on eco-friendly paper!" http://curezone.com/blogs/m.asp?f=309&i=400.

I've been using it on Rhimax paper, which is 100% recycled, eco-friendly, and porous--just right for the milk paint! From their brochure: "Durable and absorbent, it's a great solution for banners, posters and torn paper designs, as well as protecting surfaces during craft projects...use as a drop cloth...it absorbs paint and prevents bleed-through." www.rhimax.net.

I'm envisioning the two companies, Real Milk Paint Co. and Rhimax, promoting each other's products as eco-friendly alternatives to toxic paints and plastics.

Thank you again so much for a fantastic, eco-friendly product!

Sincerely,
--Liora

I recently used Real Milk Paint ® to paint a mural in an orphanage in Haiti. The main goal of my project was to paint the mural WITH the children and not for them.

I could not have found a better product to work with in this endeavor. The paint was easy to travel with as it was boxed and very lightweight in its powdered form. It was incredibly easy to mix and despite using it for the very first time out in the field with limited water, I ended up with paint that was a beautiful texture and consistency. The colors were gorgeously vibrant. The coverage was great. Most importantly, it was safe for the children, many of whom were disabled with poor motor skills meaning that the paint ended up all over them at times. There were no fumes whatsoever and the paint washed off their soft delicate skin easily and painlessly.

I will be going back to Haiti to replicate this project again and again and I will not use anything but the Real Milk Paint Co. products.

We have used other brands of milkpaint in the past, but nothing compares to your paints. They blend easily, and give your pieces the depth necessary to pull-off a really authentic looking piece. Even an amateur looks like a pro! Thanks,
--Beth and Bill (Primitiques.com)

For years I've been building Windsor Chairs and experimenting with colors, only to always come just a bit short of what I had in mind. I tried your "Deep Windsor Green" over "Red" on my last two chairs and was so pleased with the results. The color is just what I've been trying to achieve but never could.
Thanks for a great product.
--Herman

I just wanted to tell you that I used your product for the first time this Thanksgiving weekend. I painted two pieces, a Highboy dresser and a headboard. It looks absolutely magnificent! I used a light undercoat and black topcoat and your crackle finish. The pieces are just so pretty! The highboy is outstanding and looks slightly distressed. I purchased the dresser for 150 dollars and it look well worth over 500 dollars now! The headboard was 75 dollars and it looks as if I paid hundreds for that as well!

I am looking forward to finishing something else in the future now that I have found out little secrets about your Real Milk Paint! Thank you so much for a wonderful product!

Real Milk Paint is extraordinary. It vaults above the mundane (regular paint). My son is a video graphics professional. When I said to him, "This paint is not two dimensional. It's three dimensional." He knew exactly what I meant. Character. It not only has color, it has dimension. Texture, depth, even working with it is inspiring. Every step of the way, I have been excited by its many visual and textural surprises.

A woodworker, loving to build, I have always cringed at the thought of the final finishing. Not any more. Painting is fun now--an extension of the woodcraft. Real Milk Paint adds even more vibrancy to the design.

And Dwayne was extremely helpful every step of the way with our first project--kitchen cabinets. Can't say enough about the superiority of his timely follow-up with questions and the immediate shipment of Real Milk Paint products.

Thank you again, Dwayne.

I love the fact that I could paint my daughter's dresser and antique it while I was pregnant. Your paint has no noxious fumes and was safe to use (wearing gloves) while I was pregnant.

A couple of months ago, I emailed you with some questions about using black milk paint over red latex for a crackle effect. My son wanted to refinish some of our old furniture (great tester bed, Queen Anne end tables with ugly 70s high gloss finish). For the record, everything turned out GREAT. Per your suggestion, he started with a bonding primer, next the colonial red latex, then black milk paint, and finally a hand-rubbed finish. I told him I want the furniture back! He then went to target and picked up 4 inexpensive Windsor chairs in a blond wood and gave them the same treatment - they now look like a fair imitation of my hand-made David Smith Windsors! On the 4 poster bed, on top of the slight crackle of the black over red, he put a thin coat of your crackle with an additional coat of black milk paint, so there is a very fine black crackle over black over red. It is just beautiful. Thanks so much for your help - a great project for any amateur on a tight budget.

Finally, I am now buying some of your pigment powders for a new project - they are PERFECT for making vinegar paint for painting wood graining effects. Again - thanks for your help. GREAT products, and great website. VERY helpful!

I have been restoring antique furniture and building antique reproductions for over 30 years. Back in the "old days", before manufactured milk paints, I used to mix my own based on old recipes when a customer desired a milk paint finish. Up until two years ago, I used a competitor's brand. Then I was introduced to "Real Milk Paint®" and haven't used anything since. This product keeps much longer than any other that I have ever used. This includes storage with both the mixed and unmixed product. It also builds better than any other product I have ever tried. They have an enormous selection of colors and the quality control is excellent. Dwayne is always most helpful when I have questions and is a terrific source of knowledge. It is a real pleasure to do business with the courteous people at the Real Milk Paint Co.

Totally love using your milk paint. I have restored a hacienda from 1840 and this paint gives the feel of 1840's. Nothing quite like it. Makes me feel like an artist. I tried the "other" milk paint and my success was half. Took more time finding the right powder/water combo. Your powder mixes well and is easily duplicated from batch to batch. I am covering mud walls, in the style of new Mexico, and the paint is adhering well.

We have found Mr. Siever very helpful in making suggestions of different techniques and also color mixes. He has been wonderful to work with and willing to answer all our questions when we first started using Real Milk Paint®. We just can't say enough about the quality of Real Milk Paint ® and the friendly, helpful attitude we have experienced from Mr. Siever. We find that his milk paint keeps for about 2 months in the refrigerator. We have not found that to be true with other brands that we first tried. The paint dries fast, allowing other coats to be added in a short amount of time.

Thanks...I've used your milk paint already, and love the chalk-like matt finish. It's like powdered pigments, very old world, fresco look. We did a kitchen with your milk paint, two colors using a glue resist technique...very pretty. Look forward to using it again. All the best.

Finding your website was a wonderful surprise. I have always wanted to experiment with milk paint on some of my furniture projects. Your website answered all my questions. I'd like to see your color chart for a starter. Thank you.

Sorry that we will miss you this Renningers! We last bought milk paint from you at the Valley Forge Convention center, green and white as a matter of fact. Our friends also got some at the same time. I just recently used ours and am very happy with the results! Thru your web site I found a dealer in DE that is close by, so I will go there. Thanks for your help.

I love the bright red paint, the new color is great!!! I will be ordering more soon, thanks.

Pure Tung Oil

I really enjoyed using the Pure Tung Oil I purchased from The Real Milk Paint Co. I mixed it with some Citrus Solvent I also ordered from you. I had previously tried 3 other brands of Tung Oil and I thought that they either had way too many petroleum sovents in them to safely use indoors, or that the product was old and gooey. The Pure Tung Oil I received from you was easily flowing and fresh. It went on smooth and evenly. If I need more in the future, I know where to order from. Good stuff!
Thanks,
--Bill

Dear Real Milk Paint Guys,
Here's the picture I promised you of three of my handmade bamboo didgeridoos. I found that tung oil is the absolute best product available for the inner bore of these instruments of keep moisture from soaking into the wood and causing possible splitting issues. It's also non-toxic which is a must in these instruments that are in contact with one's mouth. I also usually give their outsides a light coat of tung oil before final buffing. Thanks for making this unadulterated product available!

Dear Dwayne,

I have been restoring an 1890 Brownstone in Hoboken, NJ and encountered problems with the proper floor finish to use on my 100+ year old parquet floors. After refinishing the floors a year ago with a typical satin polyurethane finish, the finish began peeling at the edges of the boards. We have now resanded the floors and have been looking for the proper finish to use. My research lead me to you and I have purchased your Tung Oil. I have been refinishing furniture and woodwork for years and want to say what a treat it was to use your product which seems so pure. The tung oil I have used in the past was in my estimation nothing more than varnish with maybe a touch of tung oil added. I have completed 4 coats as of today and I can already tell that it will turn out as I had hoped. One point I must make, if your customers are planning on using your tung oil for a wood floor I must strongly recommend that they use your citrus solvent as a thinner. I started by using turpentine as my thinner for the first two coats and I forgot just how stinky it is to use. I don't care how much ventilation you have, the smell permeates everything not to mention the spontaneous combustion concerns. Having switched to your citrus solvent, I can't wait to put on another coat tomorrow and have the whole house smell like oranges. Thanks again for providing a great product and I plan on recommending your company whenever I can.
Sincerely,
--Jon

Dear Mr. Siever, I ordered the Pure Tung Oil yesterday, received it today and applied it to two pieces of cast-off furniture this evening. I love the product! I love the way it smells and the fact that I'm not killing any brain cells when I use it. It has made my $2 chair look like a $200 chair - I am tempted to use it on my face (kidding)! And I am very impressed with your service - so fast! I really liked receiving the shipping notification email with the tracking number and the link to UPS to track the order.

Thanks again for the outstanding service and gorgeous product!
Sincerely,
--Rachel S.

The floor is fantastic!  I was just cleaning it this morning with a sponge mop and it is amazing how good it looks!  I am SO GLAD I found your site with all the how to.  Such a WARM and DEEP look.......

In August I bought some Tung Oil and Carnauba Wax from you to use it on my Bass guitar. Well, the bass is ready: I put 7 layers of Tung Oil on it letting it dry in between layers. Then I put one layer of Myland Wax and 2 layers of Hard Carnauba Wax on it. It looks great!! Feels great!! Even smells great!! Super products!!!

I just received my humble order from you (a little plastic bottle containing Pure Tung-Oil). Aside that I received it VERY FAST (it was sent on 04.04 and it arrived on 17.04, remember you that it was send "by ground" and I'm living in Croatia, Europe!). I must tell you a few words about the product.

I was trying to get an appropriate oil for treatening my precious Warwick bass guitar, which needed some finish mods and repairs. Since almost all luthiers agree that tung-oil is the right stuff for instrument body treatment, I had to give it a chance. Unfortunately, here in Eastern Europe, tung-oil is almost unknown, and all the woodworkers are using linseed oil or its derivates. The other bad thing was the majority of Internet-selling companies were unable to send me any of their tung-oil based products, mainly because they sell some flammable derivates, and this presumes some hard and expensive papirology, which is unpractical when someone is buying small quantities. And now, about the product:

I already applied two coats of your tung-oil on the Warwick body......BANG! The miracle happened!

I must confess that in the beginning, I was a little reserved about this oil (it smells a little like old sunflower oil, the one used for cooking donuts, and it feels....well, unusual, maybe untrusty to the skilled luthier nose and fingers). But, as I said, the miracle happened...I never saw nothing alike, regarding the wood's behaviour, in the best sense! Yes, I was warned that pure tung-oil takes a little longer to cure, but...who cares? I cannot explain myself WHY the results on wood are so good...it's the oil itself, or it's because it's PURE?

Anyway, the evidence is this:
IT'S A MUST FOR EVERY SERIOUS MAKER OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.

Please feel free to submit these lines on your page, if they're helpful for you, because the tung-oil you sell is, surely, a very helpful product to me!
Sincerely yours,
--Sorin

Thanks, I just ordered a gallon and a quart of your tung oil. My research indicates it is a wonderful material to use for a wood finish. Difficult to obtain. I looked for it locally and sales people told me  all kinds of falsehoods about pure tung oil! Too bad. I think most people would believe them and the product does not get used. An engineer friend of mine highly recommended it and even had me do a sample on my wood so I could get the feel of it. Quite frankly one of the things I liked was I could just put it on with my hand and literally feel it. I appreciate your making this fine product available! Your fast response made me select your company to order my tung oil from.

Dark Tung Oil

"Got it!" I've already tried both Tung oils and I'm so glad I got the dark kind. It's so sticky it actually pulls cracks together as it dries. I put one coat on a wooden lemon reamer that's splitting and the crack is definitely closing. I have a huge rock maple cutting board I've been assiduously oiling as per instructions, but it's developed cracks anyway. So, I'm going to give it the dark Tung oil treatment, a good 10-12 coats and immobilize the thing.

This is fun! Thanks so much for tracking down this product. The light Tung oil is very nice too, but not as sticky. Useful where the amber effect of linseed oil is not wanted. Since I'm making teaching materials for all ages, it's nice to add to my repertoire of attractive, nontoxic finishes.

Pleasure doing business with you...
'till next time

Milk Paint Remover

Your milk paint remover is FANTASTIC!!!! I tried using a heavy-duty stripper to remove layers of paint (latex, oil and milk, I believe) from the punched metal panels of an old pie safe. The toxic, smelly stripper wasn't doing the job and I was afraid I'd have to resort to a wire brush attachment on my drill. I mixed a small amount of your paint remover, applied it with a brush ---and minutes later I washed ever single paint layer away with ease. UNBELIEVABLE! Feel free to use this as a testimonial. I'll certainly be telling everyone I know about your product!

I live in a late 18th century house and have tried in vain to remove some gray paint from pine paneling in my home. After using your milk paint remover, I felt compelled to write and tell you what a wonderful product you have and what a great job it did removing my problem paint. It was easy to mix in any amount I needed and it gave off no noxious or toxic odor. Thank you for a great product.

Soy-Gel™

It's almost a year later that my girlfriend and I ordered your Soy Gel and Raw Tung Oil products. I cannot say enough about the high quality, low vapor off-gassing, and ease of use of these products.

We have a 1915 Craftsman and are in the process of refinishing the bathroom and the floors throughout. Since we live in Redwood Country, the house is constructed of mostly old growth redwood, so our goal is to uncover and reclaim the character of this beautiful wood.

I used the stripper to take off 6 layers of paint from: a 6 ft. cast iron clawfoot bathtub, a solid Redwood door and doorframe, and various old growth redwood trim boards used for a built in cabinet. I will next use it to take off paint from the recently "re-discovered" tongue-and-groove floorboards in our home.

The Tung Oil was applied on re-claimed, old growth Redwood tongue-and-groove paneling that was attached to the walls, hidden by the crumbling sheetrock. Thankfully, the boards were mostly clean on the 'good' side, so we simply sanded them, applied the tung oil and created a wainscoting and surround-shelf for the entire bathroom. The end result is a warm, rustic, dazzling bathroom.

I love these products - I have tried JASCO and Formby's, products you typically find at any home improvement center, and yours are far superior. The next thing we will be trying of course, is your Real Milk Paint®.

Thank you for making such great products!

Just wanted to drop you a note about a product I purchased from you. I have never written regarding a product before, but I had to send a note about Soy-Gel. This has to be the most amazing stripper I have ever used!! We are building a house and I have an old kitchen table (grandmothers) that I wanted to refinish. I have kids that are involved in a lot of activities so finding a time and place to work on this kind of project is tough. Last night, I stripped the top of the table in no time flat (in the kitchen) while cooking supper and doing laundry! No Odor!! Stop and go as often as you like. I even made a trip to the store. WOW! Didn't have a mess, no fumes!!! UNREAL!! Everyone should try this! I'm looking at other pieces now! It really takes anything off so fast! This stuff is really something!!! It really works! The Best Stuff!! Thanks a lot!

Customer Service

Yesterday I received the tung oil that I ordered a few days ago. As you know, it was shipped in a recycled box, packaged in a previously used bag (Target) and packed with shredded newspaper. That is excellent! I'm sure not enough people thank you for shipping that way, but I certainly appreciate your reuse of shipping materials and the lack of plastic. I'll look forward to placing my next order in a few months. Thanks,
--Steve C.

Thank you so much! If you want to use a testimonial at your web site for great customer service, you can certainly use me! I am very pleasantly surprised with your service, especially after months of receiving none-existant or poor customer service from several other companies. I work in Customer Service, so I really do appreciate it when it's good! Thanks again,
--Paula
