Haiti Orphanage Project
My non-profit organization, The Mural Movement, brings murals to orphanages in developing countries.
The murals are painted WITH the children, not for the children. In this way, we hope to empower the children by allowing
them to change their own environment- the environment of these orphanages is usually lacking in color, toys, or stimulation
of any kind. Additionally, we add physical therapy equipment and texture to the finished murals in order to make a 3
dimensional tool for the children to be used for their continued development after we are gone.
In the two years since we began, we have completed 5 murals in 3 countries: Haiti, Honduras, and Morocco. In 2007,
we will complete 4 more murals in Haiti, Burkina Faso, Cuba, and Peru. We have never used anything besides milk paint
from The Real Milk Paint Company. This company has been a friend and a sponsor to The Mural Movement since we started
and we could not do this work without their support and especially without their amazing product, the paint itself.
I could not have found a better product to work with in this endeavor. The paint is easy to travel with as it is
boxed and very lightweight in its powdered form. It is incredibly easy to mix and despite having to mix it in the field
with limited water at times, I always end up with paint that has a beautiful consistency and texture. The colors are
gorgeous and the coverage is great. Most importantly, the paint is safe for the children, many of whom are disabled with
poor motor skills meaning that the paint ends up all over them at times. There are no fumes and the paint washes off their
delicate skin easily and painlessly.
We will be creating murals again and again and The Mural Movement will not use anything but the Real Milk Paint products.
When you purchase products from this company, you not only receive an outstanding product but you also support a company that
cares about the world we live in and is willing to give back to help make it a better place.
